Can you use MIDI files instead of recording from a keyboard to play the virtual instrument? Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm just starting with all of this :B
I'm told this is a good video for beginners, i wish i could hear it. i've checked system prefs, made sure itunes and youtube are up; don't know what to do
Hey, how do I record using my computer keyboard to play. When I press record, it just records empty space. That red light won't show up. Thanks for helping out
I have downloaded the SynthEngine.vst3 by Best Engine and with other vst's I could just paste the .vst3 file in my Library>Audio>Plug-ins>VST3 folder but it doesn't work with this one. Has anyone some tips?
dear friend when recording a midi track whith a vst instrument on cubase 5 , when i move the virtual knobs up and down the sond does not get regitred as it should, just a linear sound . its possible to record the changins on the virtual knob while recording?
How do I get VSTs loading into Cubase though? What i mean is that Cubase isn't recognizing any of the ones I want? Do I have to copy the vst into C drive>steinberg>cubase manually?
most midi drum kits sound terrible unless you are doing hip hop. I'm into rock and blues and Midi drums are always lifeless sounding. Glide and Pitch Bend can be programmed into midi VST or done manually live on a keystation. to do it live you would need some kind of hardware like a midi controller with the bender
Hey, where can I download VST instruments? All of my drum kits sound terrible. And how can I do LIVE pitch bending and volume adjusting WHILST I'm recording? Do I need an external keyboard, with knobs and dials?
This is a tremendously good and efficient tutorial, actually explaining the whole workflow and menu structure, functionality and even some technical aspects in under 10 minutes. Now, finally, I do understand the concept behind VST-Instruments and get an idea of what possibilyties one has with those tools. I'm really greatfull for your effort.
When you want to use VTSi instruments not supplied with Cubase, like the one shown in this video, where do you put them so that they will be seen and recognized by Cubase? I tried adding some TAL VSTis to the Cubase directory. Cubase could then see those that are purely effects, reverb, etc., but not the TAL-UNO62 synth which is what I really want to use. How do you get Cubase to recognize a new VST?
After several headaches, hours of lost time, and what I suspect is a developing ulcer, I broke down and sought outside help setting this program up. Your video has saved me an immense amount of further discomfort. Many thanks!
i am really confused with the vst intrument layout ???? For example in this video u added an instrument track nd u add a vst with it, but whats the difference between this method u showed nd going on the Vst INtruments panel ?? r they two different things
@PaulNicholas2010 You could possibly use the MIdi to USB cable to record MIDI events from the DP into Cubase. But if you want to record the audio itself, yes, you'll need an audio interface. For a laptop, look at something USB2, maybe by M-Audio?
is there a 'piano roll' function in cubase and can you lay your patterns out in 'song mode'?, why does cubase have to be so complicated. ive got cubase 5 but i always find i go back to fl studio purely for ease of use.. idiot-proof workflow.
can you create patterns and if so how, i mean how can you lay your electronic riffs and beats into a song. do you have to record live then drag and drop your audio clip into the main song window. im no novice when it comes to producing but this program…
when i use my vst synths, i will change the settings on the synth to get a different sound, but when i play them back, it always goes back to the default sound. how do i fix this? thanks.

I am totally new to this recording stuff….I'm having trouble at the moment, basically this is where I am…
I have Cubase 5.1
I have a Yahama YDP-101 Digital Piano
I have a laptop
I have a Midi to USB cable…
So my question is how to I get to record with Cubase? Am I missing something? do I need an audio interface?
Thanks for any help!
dis-enabled?.. I believe the proper word would be, hmm… disabled 🙂
